UX/UI Designer
Solution Finder
Project Summary
Challenge
The client Motorola Solutions needed a smarter way for enterprise buyers to identify the right communication systems—with less technical overload.
The products and solution offerings were highly complex, meaning a standard e-commerce flow was not viable for the target users.
Access to end-users for research was very limited—so user-insight had to come via subject-matter experts and channel partners.
Objective
To design a guided decision-tool (Solution Finder) that simplifies the complexity into an intuitive, step-by-step flow, tailoring recommendations based on role, organisation size and environment.
To validate the approach and evolve prototyping through usability testing with internal users, channel partners and end-users, thereby ensuring the tool works in a real-world context.
To deliver the solution within a three-month timeframe, using tools such as Sketch, Axure and Photoshop, and build a foundation for future enhancements (mobile, more offerings, e-commerce integration).

Preliminary Research
Initially, I had very limited access to users to conduct research. In the absence of end-users, I spoke with Subject Matter Experts and Partners.
Based off that research, I came up with an e-commerce style proposal. Through usability testing and validity testing with internal users and Partners, I determined that a traditional e-commerce experience would not be viable as our products and solutions are incredibly complex to be simply purchased online.
I then conducted a comparative analysis on websites that also sell complex products and solutions to understand how they educate their end-customers.
That research resulted in an initial wireframe that evolved through quick user tests with internal employees and Partners.
Wireframing
and Prototyping
After defining the project goals, the target user group and features, I worked on translating ideas into tangible prototypes. I started with sketches and then transferred them to Axure for a proposal design. See the multiple versions in the below link.
Testing Hi-Fi Prototype
We conducted Usability Tests with 5 Internal Motorolans, 5 Channel Partners, and 5 potential end-users. Some of the results from that can be seen here on the left. Please reach out to learn more about how I create UX analytic plans measuring for success/fail.
Redefined
Hi-Fi Prototype
Working with a Visual Designer, we converted the prototype into hi-fi mocks.
